Wismar

The medieval town of Wismar on Germany’s Baltic coast was during the 14th and 15th centuries a major trading centre of the Hanseatic League. The old quarter, with its distinctive gabled architecture and cobbled stone streets, is a wonderful legacy of Wismar’s Hanseatic heyday. Excursions from this historic city take you to Germany’s capital that until the fall of the Berlin Wall was divided between East and West. Other options include Germany’s second city Hamburg. The sophisticated cosmopolitan city is beautifully sited on the banks of the River Elbe and around the Alster Lake.

The 22,080grt Bahamian flagged Marco Polo cruise ship with her handsome traditional profile, beautiful teak decks and distinctive dark blue hull is a classic ocean liner. She can accommodate up to 800 guests within a warm and friendly atmosphere that reflects a truly intimate cruise experience. The ms Marco Polo is fully stabilised and air conditioned and has eight passenger decks serviced by three main lobbies and four lifts.

There is a good selection of comfortable cabin accommodation ranging from standard to deluxe with 70% of cabins on board the Marco Polo cruise ship having an ocean view. Category options are priced generally according to position, size and facilities.

For the enjoyment of our adult passengers Marco Polo cruises operate as ‘child free’. This means that even during school holiday times you can enjoy the pleasures of cruising in the company of adult passengers only. We will however accept teenagers who are 16 years old or above at the time of sailing but they must be accompanied by adult passengers. Families will however be welcome to cruise aboard Discovery although it should be noted that there are no dedicated recreation facilities for children.

Restaurants

  • Waldorf Restaurant:Our maitre’d and his attentive waiting staff will welcome you to the elegant Waldorf Restaurant where you can opt for a full English breakfast, savour a leisurely five-course lunch and enjoy a delightful dinner every day of your cruise. Whilst breakfasts and lunches are generally served in the restaurant on an open seating basis, two fixed time sittings are operated for dinner in the evening.
  • Marco's Restaurant: As a casual alternative, the light and airy Marco’s Restaurant is open every day for buffet style breakfast, lunches and dinner. Here informality is the key and you can feel free to drop in without any ceremony. The Pool Deck lends itself particularly well to al fresco meals so a buffet breakfast or lunch from Marco’s can be served up with a complimentary ocean view!

Bars and Lounges

  • Palm Garden: Settle down and enjoy wonderful panoramic ocean views in the relaxing Palm Garden
  • Columbus Lounge: Relax in a secluded corner of the delightful Columbus Lounge where the head barman will soon get to know your favourite drink.
  • Captain's Club: At the very heart of Marco Polo is the stylish Captain’s Club, a popular place to meet fellow passengers. To start your evening you might opt for a pre-dinner drink here and enjoy a few of your favourite melodies played by our resident pianist.
  • Marco Polo Lounge: After dinner the show team would enjoy the pleasure of your company in the comfortable theatre-style Marco Polo Lounge as our artists display their talents in a snappily choreographed revue or colourful floorshow – all you need to do is just sit back and enjoy.
  • Scotts Bar: Scotts Bar is an ideal spot for evening entertainment and late night dancing for the night owls! Located on Amundsen Deck, Scotts has direct access to the outside and a view of the pool deck below.

Entertainment

Our ships have some great entertainment on board, from show teams to pianists to disco. Why not start your evening with a pre-dinner drink and enjoy some of your favourite melodies? Our resident musicians invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy conversation with new friends about another wonderful day ashore.

Leisure Facilities

Marco Polo offers a traditional maritime experience in cosy surroundings. Discover a wide range of comfortable lounges and stylish leisure facilities to enrich your time on board. Watch Marco Polo on The Travel Channel's Cruise Today and see for yourself.

It offers hairdressing & beauty treatments, fitness and exercise equipment, and sauna and massage facilities. Why not indulge yourself with life’s most perfect gifts: relaxation, invigoration and rejuvenation. Treat yourself to a spa package and design your own special day. Treatments and prices are subject to change. How about a few hands of cards in the Nansen Card Room? Or immerse yourself in a good book from the well stocked Livingston Library. Then, browse through the shopping arcade and photo gallery for a few memories to take home of your time on board Marco Polo.
